On The Road

Rental adventure to the Northern Lights

Beautiful nature and few people. Being able to go where you want and not having to look for a place to sleep. That feels like ultimate freedom to us and what we enjoy so much on holiday. Norway with a camper fits perfectly into this spirit!

We had been to the south of Norway before, but the north was still on the wish list. The Lofoten, the North Cape and the Northern Lights. A lot of kilometers to drive, but the landscapes along the way more than make up for it. We covered quite a few kilometers in the first few days. Through Germany, Denmark and Sweden. From the Arctic Circle we started taking it easy. Via Finland to northeastern Norway. There we were soon treated to the Northern Lights. About five or six evenings in a row. September is a good month for this. Dark at the right time and not too cold.

We arrived at the North Cape at sunset. Beautiful! Perhaps our most beautiful sunset ever, partly due to the special location. The sky turned from yellow and orange to deep red and, a while later, turned green. We also enjoyed the Northern Lights here!

We slowly drifted south via the islands of Senja and the Lofoten. Many beautiful and varied views along the way. The Lofoten Islands were also a real highlight. A surprising landscape of unprecedented beauty. Further south we saw a village called Nevernes on a map. The name captured our imagination and so we went to take a look. The road to it, the village itself and the viewpoint on the edge completely matched the image that the name Nevernes conjured up for us. A small, almost deserted village with a beautiful little harbor. At the viewpoint there was a small hut with fantastic views over clear blue and green colored water and mountains. Quiet and all to ourselves. Binoculars were ready.

We camped wild every night for almost four weeks. Our camper gave us everything we needed for this wonderful holiday.
