Vanomobil Stories

Drinking water project in Rwanda

To make traveling by camper as ecologically responsible and sustainable as possible, Vanomobil will launch the "Give Back To Nature formula" starting from 2023. Compensating the unavoidable CO2e emissions of our rental fleet is part of this. Our partner here is Greentripper, a Belgian initiative of CO2logic.

VANOMOBIL X GREENTRIPPER

Greentripper starts from the theory that developed countries are most responsible for CO2e emissions. However, these CO2e emissions do end up in the atmosphere that we share with, among others. Maasai of Kenya, with the Inuit of the Arctic, with the Bangladeshi, with the people of Kiribati, the Maldives, the Seychelles or the Tuvalu Islands. They are all suffering more than us from climate disruption. And so Greentripper supports climate projects in these regions with this CO2e compensation. All projects proposed by Greentripper meet high standards to ensure that your contribution really makes a difference.

Greentripper not only selects climate projects that have an impact in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, but also in terms of sustainability and co-benefits for the local population. All these benefits are aligned with the United Nations Development Goals and meet the criteria of the Gold Standard, an internationally recognized certification body created in 2003 by WWF and other international NGOs to ensure that projects that reduce carbon emissions , the highest levels of environmental integrity while also contributing to sustainable development.

DRINKING WATER PROJECT RWANDA

Vanomobil has chosen the drinking water project in Rwanda. We hope to have a major impact on the lives of the local population in the short term. People in Rwanda do not have easy access to clean water. Water is often taken from polluted sources. To make the water safe for consumption, it must first be boiled. This process leads to deforestation because wood is the main source of fuel for most Rwandans. In addition, the combustion process of wood is bad for (indoor) air quality, which leads to respiratory problems.

The main objective of the project is to repair damaged wells and drill new wells and maintain them in the long term. These wells provide clean water that is accessible through a borehole. To ensure that it is safe for consumption, the water is regularly tested in advance. Providing direct access to drinking water prevents the spread of diseases and combats deforestation and destruction of biodiversity. They also save time and money and thus improve the general living conditions of the local population.

LONG-TERM COMMITMENT

We realize all too well that all CO2e emissions are irreversible and this compensation does not provide a long-term solution to climate change. Yet we are convinced that we can make an important difference for people in Rwanda. Doing something is better than doing nothing and we are at the start of a long-term commitment of which CO2e compensation is only one part. We are busy developing a long-term plan in which we want to resolutely opt for a sustainable and ecologically responsible solution for every challenge that comes our way. We want to set a good example and motivate our employees and customers to do the same.

Vanomobil hopes to be able to make this commitment together with our customers. We support every customer who wants to compensate for their CO2e emissions by providing half of the compensation.
