Motorhome Update

Your gas safety = our biggest priority

For the safety of our customers, we looked for a reliable standard to guarantee the safety of our gas systems. Since we have been working with various German manufacturers for years, we knew that in Germany the gas installation of a motorhome is well inspected, and there is even a biennial inspection. Have you noticed that sticker on the back of a German motorhome? This sticker comes with a logbook and certificate that guarantee that the gas installation of this motorhome meets the G607 standard. The G607 has been mandatory for decades for insurance and inspections for campers, caravans and mobile homes in Germany. Every two years the gas system must be subjected to an extensive inspection by recognized companies. This inspection includes a check of the tightness of the entire gas system using a pressure pump, a check of the operation of the appliances, a test of the thermocouples on the appliances and a check of the condition of the technical parts such as regulators and hoses ( corrosion, fractures, fastening, etc). We believe this is a very normal regulation, because the risks associated with an unsafe gas installation are incalculable.

Your (gas) safety is also our concern. That is why we have decided to send our in-house gas specialist for training to Germany! We now put everything into practice that he learned there about gas safety in our own workshops. All our gas installations are now only carried out in accordance with this German G607 standard. In addition, we are now also a recognized operator of the biannual inspection with associated certificates for customers who want this. Naturally, this certificate has no legal basis in Belgium, but that does not alter the fact that you can rest easy with the certificate. And you no longer have to expect any unpleasant surprises if you want to spend the night at a campsite in Germany, Switzerland or Austria.

The choice for 100% gas safety has even more concrete consequences for our workshop, namely the fact that we no longer carry out certain gas installations that were previously common, but are contrary to the German standard. For example, we prefer to install the BBQ connections in the gas trunk instead of in the garage. We also only mount the filler of an LPG bottle directly on the bottle and therefore no longer use the well-known but dangerous external fillers. This way you can fill the LPG bottles 100% safely by simply opening your gas case.

This was not an easy decision as many competitors still do this, but we are convinced that we can count on everyone's understanding and appreciation for our drastic choice for 100% gas safety. We are convinced that a European standard will be introduced very soon that will require regular inspection of the gas installation. Since the G607 is the most widely applied standard in Europe, we suspect that we will rely on this and that in this way we will simply get ahead of the inevitable. Our Dutch colleagues have also been recognized for years to carry out the G607 gas inspections.

PS: on certain platforms you can read that the G607 will only become mandatory in 2023, but this is not entirely correct. What has recently changed in Germany is that the G607 inspection is no longer a requirement to pass the general inspection, where this was previously the case. This is not because it is no longer relevant, but because there is a technical irregularity in the check, as a result of which it can no longer be required. From 2023 it will be included as a requirement again. However, all this is not relevant to us, because German campsites and insurance companies nevertheless continue to require the G607 inspection.
